Clinical Psychology Services
There are many reasons why you might take your child to see a psychologist and it may make you feel worried, anxious or even guilty about doing so. This is perfectly normal – you as a parent are programmed to worry about them and to want the best for them.
Child Clinical Psychology Services
Rachael Tan is a registered and endorsed Clinical Psychologist who has worked with children and adolescents for over a decade, including those with Autism and other developmental and physical disabilities (e.g., Down syndrome, Cerebal palsy, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome).
Rachael has a particular interest and significant experience in working with families to:
- Support children who demonstrate challenging behaviours, to promote more positive behaviour
- Achieve developmental milestones (e.g., toilet training, literacy and communication skills)
- Maintain good mental health (e.g., managing anxiety-related issues such as separation anxiety and phobias)
Rachael delivers therapy through a variety of evidence-based interventions such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, and Positive Behaviour Support, but is committed to working with every client to understand and develop a tailored approach that works best for them and their particular situation
Rachael is also a guest contributor for articles requiring an expert opinion on matters related to child psychology on theAsianparent.com, the largest parenting website in South-East Asia, and a Board-approved supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia, and recently published a book, “Help! I’m a Parent! A parent’s guide to managing challenging behaviours and promoting more positive ones”.
Sessions with the Clinical Psychologist, Rachael, are only available for bookings on Mondays. The first available time slot is at 9.30am, and the last at 3.30pm. Rachael is currently accepting clients between the ages of 2-10 years and sessions may include working with parents and caregivers for part or all of the session) Please note that if you are claiming a rebate, your child must be present at each session. If you wish to ask Rachael a question before booking an appointment, please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The cost per session of up to 60 minutes is $240. Sessions longer than this are charged in 10-minute blocks.
Full fee-for-service: We gladly accept clients who do not have a referral or who are not eligible for/accessing government funding. Rachael provides clinical psychology and behaviour support services at an hourly rate that is less than the current rate recommended by the Australian Psychological Association.
You may be eligible for a rebate from your private health insurer. Please contact your private health insurer for more information.
Medicare: Rachael is a registered Medicare provider of Clinical Psychology services. To claim a Medicare rebate ($128.40 per standard session), please ensure that you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from you GP, which you will need to present at your initial appointment. As Behaviour Tonics does not provide bulk-billing services, there will be a gap payment payable.
Please note you will be required to pay your account in full after each session, and then claim your rebate from Medicare.
NDIS: We are not currently accepting NDIS-funded clients.
If you need to cancel or re-schedule an appointment, we ask that you provide us with at least 24 hours’ notice.
For example, if your appointment is at 11am on Thursday, you will need to let us know by 11am on Wednesday.
Appointments that are cancelled or re-scheduled within 24 hours will be billed at 50 percent of the session fee, and appointments cancelled on the day of the appointment or not attended, will be billed at 100 percent of the session fee. This will be invoiced to you for payment at the time of the cancellation/non-attendance of the appointment. Please note that you are unable to claim rebates on cancellation fees.
Why do we need this cancellation policy?
- Given that the time has been set aside for you, if you do not use it, it is unlikely that at short notice the appointment can be filled by someone else.
- To be fair to other clients who would have taken the appointment time if given sufficient notice.
- To account for the significant time and care that goes into planning and preparation for your session.
We trust you will agree that this is a fair and reasonable policy and we thank you for your understanding.
Ready to schedule a session?
To help us provide the best service to you and your child, we request that you kindly fill in the Referral Form. Once this is completed and submitted, we will be in touch within 3 business days to offer an appointment.
Positive Behaviour Support in Schools
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a whole school framework which helps schools to create positive learning environments.
Rachael is an experienced behaviour support consultant, and is able to provide training in the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support.
Training workshops will provide attendees with knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support principles and strategies, such as how to assess and identify the functions of challenging behaviour (functional assessment), and how to develop Behaviour Support Plans.
We are able to offer tailored training packages to suit the needs of each organisation/school (e.g., half/full-day workshops, short/longer-term follow-up support).”
